The Wasted Fortune

I was in a restaurant when two young ladies came in. They ordered food which was beautifully garnished. They took several pictures with the food. After a few bites, they asked for the bill and left the nearly untouched food. Saw it before? I guess so.
The era of social media has led people back to the belief of anthropocentrism - human beings are the central of the whole universe - and sadly, combined with excessive level of narcissism. It's all about 'me'. Everybody should notice 'me'. Hey! See 'me' can afford to buy this food which I do not eat. Statistics said people averagely took selfies 3 times a day, with total over than 1 million selfies per day! However, let's leave the facts about selfies number and look back on the untouched food left on the table. What are they going to do with it? Most of the time, it will be thrown away on the trash. Does it matter? Of course
it does! 12.9 percent of the population in the world suffer from hunger and undernourishment. It means one from nine persons in the world population does not have enough food to actively live in a healthy condition. For the undernourished children, 45% of them - 3.1 million children - died each year before they can reach the age of five. Does it happen because we are lack of food supply? It does not seem like it. Each year, we CAN waste A LOT of food. According to a recent report by UNEP and the World Resources Institute (WRI), about one-third of all food produced worldwide, worth around US$1 trillion, gets lost or wasted in food production and consumption systems. Food wasting could occur in the early stage of the food production e.g. mismanagement of food planting, maintaining, and harvesting or distributing. Besides, food loss and waste happens at later stages in the supply chain: the food you waste on your dining table. Looking back to the selfies behaviour in today's society. It would be really nice if people start to simply eat the food they got instead of making it a photo model. Surely you can take a bunch of photos and post it in every social networks you subscribe. Just's do not forget to give some respect. You are part of the lucky people who have food on the plate. Please be responsible, eat what you have ordered.
